Tea is incomplete in Hyderabad without a snack, particularly without Nizam era’s Osmania Biscuits. Irani Chai (Tea) and Osmania Biscuits is aakhri(ultimate) combination for an evening snack. Tea is also often taken with samosa or mirchi bajji.
Ingredients:
All purpose flour/Maida – 200 gm
Salted Butter – 120 gm
Powdered Sugar – 60 gm
Custuard – 1 tbsp
Salt – 2 tsp
Baking Soda – 2 pinches
Cardamom (Optional) – 2
Milk – 1 tbsp
Preparation:
Mix butter, powdered sugar and milk. Add the remaining ingredients and knead it into a soft dough. Now sprinkle maida and spread the dough as shown. Make sure it is 1 cm in thickness. Using any shape, carve out the biscuits. Historically, Osmania Biscuits are round in shape. Preheat oven at 180°C and bake the biscuits for 15 to 18 minutes. Relish these addictive Osmania biscuits with Irani chai (tea).
